Unity and SteamVR
- by Jason
In my senior year at Marin Catholic High School I was the president of the Computer Programming club. I wanted to bring something different to the club, and was intrigued by the latest VR headsets that had entered the market. I worked with the administration to secure funding for an HTC Vive headset along with a computer to power the headset, then spent the remainder of the year teaching members of the club how to use Unity and eventually SteamVR (a plugin developed by Valve Inc. for use with the HTC Vive) in order to make virtual reality games and experiences. Even though my time at the school is over, I still keep in touch with the current president and encourage the club to constantly be looking for interesting and novel ways to use virtual reality.
Below is a sample of one game I made while at Marin Catholic called SoundGuess, in which the player's sound localization ability is tested. Additionally, the Marin Catholic annual magazine wrote an article about the club which contains an excerpt of the proposal I brought to the administration, which you will find below.
